Today is the Day!! Giving Hope Beyond Addiction

This year's annual celebration of GivingTuesday is on November 28. It is a movement that encourages shared humanity and generosity through communities worldwide. To Give Hope Beyond Addiction is a call to action to raise awareness of the successes of the innovative treatment at Penfield Addiction Ministries.

Patricia's Story

"I had some work to do." - Patricia

Patricia's goal was to get clean and sober so she could get her children back but she had some work to do first.

Patricia is one of many clients who experience Mother Wounds. Our mothers will never be perfect so they may leave wounds that need to be healed: abandonment, rejection, abuse, etc.

At Penfield, we provide a class that teaches what a mother wound is and a follow-up group to process those intense feelings. Patricia wrote many letters to her mother and later burned them as a way of processing those feelings so she doesn't have to carry those wounds around for the rest of her life.

Patricia also was able to identify her core values through a Values Identification class. Often, clients are unsure of what their values are or have compromised those values in their addiction. Patricia was able to identify honesty and integrity as a value that is important to her and her desire not to compromise them in the future.
